Disproving Christianity

Carrier, Bass bring a heated debate

There was a buzz in the air upon introduction to the debate. Shank Hall watched, filled to capacity, as Drs. Richard Carrier and Justin Bass dueled their respective arguments on the miraculous resurrection of Jesus Christ.

As Mythicists, we believe that it is all lore. Tonight was not about whether there was a historical Jesus. Tonight for arguments sake, it will be assumed that there was a man named Jesus. Is there any reliable source material that points to this man’s return to a living corporeal form after being publicly put to death? Viewpoints got heated during the debate and the Q & A afterwards. We recorded it all for you to watch on YouTube.

The questions from the audience only fueled the disagreements, though Bass pointed out many ways that Carrier and he agree on certain points. The resurrection is a big topic and the two frequently strayed, but not for long.

The highlight of the night was during the Q & A session. Pete Isley, Midwest chapter president of SNAP, waited in line for his turn at the mic and then said, “This is like Thanksgiving at my house but with citations.”

He spoke of the relevance of the topic of the debate to the rape of countless children right here in Southeastern Wisconsin. A video of his comments are on the MM YouTube page.

Everyone did a great job to keep things running. Sean and Fritz put a lot of effort into this project and it paid off. Many MM members went church-to-church promoting Buzzed Belief. Adam, Jason, Jozef and others worked hard to stream the debate live on the internet. Worth it!

DM Murdock was also a member of one of the world's most exclusive institutes for the study of Ancient Greek Civilization, the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, Greece.

DM Murdock is the author of several books, including The Christ Conspiracy and Christ in Egypt: The Horus-Jesus Connection  among many others. She was a proponent and leading scholar of the Christ myth theory. Her latest Book “Did Moses Exist?” provides a massive amount of information from antiquity about the world's religious traditions and mythology, including how solar myths, wine cultivation and fertility cults have shaped the Bible and Judaism. This book is revered as the most comprehensive study to date on the subject of Moses.

She was all of this and much more to many. She was a leader in the freethought movement and challenged the status quo. She showed us that it was okay to speak out against the unfair treatment of women in heavily religiously indoctrinated cultures. She challenged us to question everything including Jesus’ historicity. She inspired many people to learn more about the mythological origins of modern day religions. The Mythicist Milwaukee team will miss her very much.

To pay tribute we wanted to reflect on what she meant to others and listen to their stories and experiences with this amazing individual who has passed away on December 25, 2015. To honor her legacy, a panel made up of Aron Ra, David Fitzgerald, Miguel Conner, and Dr. Robert Price along with the Mythicist Milwaukee team, discussed the impact that Acharya’s work and friendship had on their lives.

If DM Murdock has inspired you throughout the years please consider donating to her family. Her immediate family is in need of support to cover funeral costs and many more expenses. You can donate here by purchasing her e-books. Her family will get 100 % of your donation and you will receive digital copies of her e-books.
